Chief Minister , K. Chandrasekhar Rao discussed the creation of new districts and mandals with Deputy Chief Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali and senior officials. An announcement of new districts would be made on June 2, State Formation Day.
“New districts will come into existence either from August 15 or Dasara. Functions will also be held accordingly. Mandals will also be reorganised for administrative convenience. Smaller districts can be administered better. For every eight to 10 mandals, there will be a revenue division,” CM KCR said.
He instructed Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma to take immediate steps for carving out the new districts and mandals. TS, with a population of 3.5 crore has 10 districts, 42 revenue divisions and 464 revenue mandals at present.
CM KCR told the meeting that since the Centre was taking steps to increase the number of Assembly constituencies from the 119 to 153, the TS government should also gear up to carve out the new districts and mandals in tune with it for administrative convenience.
“One has to travel long districts within a district which is causing hardship to both officials and people. Smaller districts can be administered better. Hyderabad has development rapidly and such developments should also be spread to other places. Increase in districts and mandals is purely for public good; it will increase employment and provide promotions to government employees,” Mr KCR explained.
